| ABOUT THE CAUSE |
| |
In December of 1989, Gail Hayward, a 47-year old woman was diagnosed
with stage III ovarian cancer. Although her physicians told her
that the disease would most likely be fatal within two years,
Gail survived for ten and a half years. Gail passed away on Mother's
Day in May of 2000. During those 10 years of Gail's life, she
built what is now known as the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition
(NOCC). In 1995 the NOCC was incorporated
as the country's first comprehensive organization dedicated
to ovarian cancer awareness and education. The NOCC developed
a national hotline, website, and initiated the National September
Ovarian Cancer Awareness Campaign. Within two years of its incorporation,
NOCC was acknowledged as the leading educational and informational
organization on ovarian cancer. NOCC established a prestigious
national medical advisory board and board of directors from
around the country to support the development and management
of the organization. Today there are over 45 NOCC Divisions
across the United States.
Detailed information about the national
organization, the NOCC, can be found at their website, www.ovarian.org.
